THEO BOOKED THEIR flight to India for the next morning, although there had been one out of Bergen that evening. He had insisted they wait to make sure her concussion didn’t become more severe.

After recounting the past few months and discussing the upcoming plans with Freyja, Sera lay down on the hotel bed. She called Nora, filling her in on the events of their trip so far and learned that Nora’s magical training was going better than expected. Apparently, Nora had a real knack for magic, which wasn’t all that surprising to Sera.

“Why don’t you just wear the torc for protection until you get the amulet back?” Nora asked.

“Because Bacchus claimed me, no other god or goddess can. It’s a weird magic rule, I guess,” Sera explained.

“So many rules! Renee keeps telling me all the things I can’t do. It’s infuriating,” Nora harrumphed. “In other news, Solomon came by, and I had a chance to show off my new skills.”

“What!” Sera nearly fell off the bed, her heart thumping rapidly. The move earned her a raised eyebrow from Theo.

“Oh, don’t worry. He thinks he’s in love with me.” Nora snorted. “As if he knows what love is.”

“Nor, you need to stay away from him.” Gripping the phone tightly in her hand, Sera lay back on the pillows again.

“I certainly plan on it, but I can’t help it if the smitten kitten follows me around.” There was a pause. “But he also says he wants to help us take down Danae.”

It was Sera’s time to snort. “Yeah, right. More like he’s trying to get information for Danae.”

“You’re probably right.” Her tone didn’t sound as convinced as her words. “Anyway, I gotta go. Let me know how India goes.” A smooch came through the cell.

“Be safe.” Sera set her phone down and closed her eyes.

“Are you hungry?” Theo’s voice asked.

“Mmhmm, famished.” She was too tired to even open her eyes to answer.

“I’m going to run over to the restaurant next door and pick up some food. I’ll be back as soon as I can. You rest, okay?”

She nodded her head, relieved not to feel any sharp pains when she did. The door clicked shut a moment later.
